Whoopi joining The View? 1st May 2007 With “The View” co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck announcing Monday that she’s with child and will take maternity leave in the near future, three co-host slots will need to be addressed before the show begins its 11th season in September. So far, Whoopi Goldberg’s name has been thrown into the cauldron of contenders being considered by the show’s producers. But the actress, who served as a guest host last week, is already busy with her own daily syndicated radio show, “Wake Up With Whoopi.” Other names in the mix include Roseanne Barr, Joan Rivers, Kathie Lee Gifford and Connie Chung, according to the New York Post. Rosie O’Donnell, who replaced Meredith Viera, announced last week that she would be leaving the show when her contract expires in mid-June. Roseanne is the front-runner to replace O’Donnell, as both are not afraid to speak up about their liberal views. A permanent replacement was never found for Star Jones Reynolds, who left the show amidst turmoil last June. With Hasselbeck three months pregnant and due to bounce temporarily sometime next fall, three chairs will have to be filled. With Rosie leaving, says an ABC source, "they're missing strong personalities, and that's what they're going to need if they want to keep it going."
